Built on a small rocky island, Mont Saint Michel is surrounded by a magnificent bay that provides a theatre for the highest tides in continental Europe. Constructed on the Île de Mont-Tomb in around 700 AD, the village of Mont Saint Michel reflects 13 centuries of religious architecture and tradition. The Mont and its bay were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.
